Investment Philosophy

Investment Philosophy

I believe managing investments begins with a simple, forward looking and transparent approach. That was my mindset when I began working on the Freedom Portfolios in early 2020 after seeing what was going on with financial markets around the world. I wanted to position our personal assets to take advantage of coming market volatility. I began extensive macroeconomic research, studying what global leaders were doing, what policies were being put in place, and identifying areas where the most pain would be so I could be positioned to profit from the downturn whenever it happens.

The Freedom Portfolios are constructed with a 10-year outlook. The portfolio is weighted towards Industrials, Materials, Commodities, Technology, and Energy, as my research leads me to believe those are all areas that will be essential to the prosperity of America as we go through a painful but necessary return to free market capitalism, and the return of the production of goods and services in America.

Stocks that do not pay a dividend are speculative picks that will be held preferably in a taxable brokerage account for no less than 1 year to avoid short-term capital gains tax and may be sold when they are near a specified moving average high to purchase companies that are trading at my target lows to lock in a long term capital gain. Dividend players are long-term purchases preferably held in a ROTH IRA for 10 years or longer. Just like everything else I have sold over my lifetime, I simply buy low, hold, and sell for a profit. Nothing complicated, just common sense and nerves of steel. In other words, I buy the panic.

Cannabis stocks are the most speculative plays in the Freedom Equity Portfolio and are a long-term outlook I plan on holding for no less than 10+ years. I believe when legislation is finally passed to federally legalize marijuana, institutional investors will flood the market and drive up prices. I also believe many Cannabis companies will eventually begin paying a dividend. The great Wayne Gretzky said, “A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.” I am positioning our Freedom Portfolios to take advantage of where my research leads me to believe the puck (economy) is going to be over the next 10+ years.

Despite the diversified investment approach and my aim to deliver consistent positive returns, positive returns are not guaranteed and the portfolios are subject to the risk of loss of principal. All securities carry risk of loss that clients should be prepared to bear, including the risk that an investor may lose a part or all of his or her initial investment.

Some of the general risks associated with parts of my investment strategy are; Market risk, Interest rate risk, Bond pricing, Inflation, Price fluctuation, Reinvestment of Dividends, Mutual Funds with Foreign Asset Holdings and Alternative Asset Classes.

While an attempt is made to minimize these risks through prudent investment strategies and portfolio design and construction, the risk of loss to the client is still present and real. Clients are encouraged to discuss their evolving risk tolerance with their Representative at any time.
